Four past Lowbridge: how the press won it

Three goals in the first 24 minutes, all from the ball won back in Lowbridge’s half. The tape from the 4-0, and what changed at half time in the week before.

Rhodri Kerr’s opener on 10 minutes came from a goal kick Lowbridge tried to play short. Alfie Blackwood’s on 17 came from a throw-in they never got control of. Ciaran Doherty’s on 24 came from a centre-back who had two options and no time to pick one. Three goals, three turnovers, all inside 30 metres of their goal.

The trigger is simple: the moment the ball goes wide, the nearest two players go, and the rest of the team steps up behind them. Kwame Owusu’s header on 89 minutes was the only goal from a set piece. It was also the only one Thorne said he’d seen coming on the training ground.
