Holloway Lane on a matchday morning

At eleven o’clock on a matchday, Holloway Lane is quiet. The groundstaff are cutting the last stripes into the pitch, the stewards are getting their briefing in the main stand, and 22,000 yellow and navy seats wait for the gates to open.

Ashbourne have played here since 1898, when workers from the Holloway mills put up the first wooden stand on rented land at the bottom of the lane. The ground has been rebuilt twice since. The main stand’s angled roof went up in the 1990s and is still the first thing you see from the station.

Ground tours run on the first Saturday of every month when the first team are away. They take 90 minutes and finish in the home dressing room.
