60 volunteers repaint the East Stand at Castle Meadow
Two weekends, 4,200 seats, 380 litres of navy paint and a lot of tea. Sixty volunteers repainted the whole of the East Stand, and it’s done in time for the Lowbridge game.
The youngest was 14 and the oldest was 81: Ron Brindle, who first stood on the old East Bank in 1958 and painted the rows he used to stand on. Supporters’ club members, Foundation coaches and six first-team players took shifts.
“The quote to have it done was £38,000,” club secretary Maureen Doyle said. “The volunteers did it for bacon rolls. That money goes into the pitch and the family section instead.”
The West Stand is next, in the spring. Names go on the list at the club shop.
